Drake has signed with ASCAP, the company’s VP of Rhythm & Soul
Membership, Nicole George-Middleton, told Billboard exclusively today.
"For me, a big part of making music is getting the opportunity to
work with people I love, trust and respect," Drake says. "As an
organization run by music creators, ASCAP represents a whole community
of kindred spirits. Joining ASCAP was just a natural choice for me
because I know my music is in the best possible hands."
Drake is joining a roster that includes his longtime friend and producer, Noah "40" Shebib. He had previously been with BMI.
"We are really excited to build on our longstanding relationship with
Drake’s team," George-Middleton added. "Working from the beginning with
his collaborators Noah '40' Shebib and Boi-1da, it felt only right to
have Drake join the ASCAP family."
"We're thrilled to now officially count Drake among our many
multi-talented members," ASCAP EVP of Membership Randy Grimmett stated.
"This new addition only strengthens ASCAP's reputation as home to the
world's greatest songwriters. We can't wait to see what's to come for
Drake in the future."
Drake is currently working on his third studio album, "Nothing Was
the Same." The album's first single, "Started From the Bottom,"
currently sits at No. 3 on R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and at No. 2 on
Rap Songs.
